The Association for Culture and Social Cohesion MATARÓ CULTURAL wishes you a Merry Christmas and a 2021 where normalcy returns to our lives and where culture, considered for many an essential good, fills our lives again.

On the occasion of theAny Carner, when the 50th anniversary of his death is commemorated, we leave you with his Christmas poem entitled “El rústec villancet”.

Josep Carner (1884-1970) was a Catalan poet, journalist, playwright and translator. He is also known as the prince of Catalan poets and the greatest representative of the poetry of the Noucentisme.

A star falls in the meadow,
a flower has faded,
tot belant also el ramat
with the blonde macaruia.

Hallelujah, weary heart!
Hallelujah, frozen world!
Hallelujah, God is born!
Alleluia!

No grass has darkness,
not ten do the weeping;
there is no cold or trembling,
that a wing step took it.

Hallelujah in every corner!
Hallelujah in all pain!
Hallelujah to the sinner!
Alleluia!

The children go to Bethlehem
and friends shaking hands
and the betrothed and the brethren
and the old woman in her hood!

Hallelujah, pedestrians!
Hallelujah in our songs!
Hallelujah, Catalans!
Alleluia!

The carol that accompanies Carner’s poem is the image of a work donated by the artist Albert Geronès, a member of our association.
