Joan de la Ossa is one of the painters who stands out in our city, for his characteristic style figurative with surreal touches, and that it continues to make its way into the difficult world of the fine arts.
The painter Mataró Juan de la Ossa, is an artist with a long career with exceptional technical quality, who often bets on female bodies.
He believes that the inclination towards art is already born. He and his brother started drawing from a very young age, his brother continued with drawing and comics, while he leaned towards painting.
He confesses that everything around him is an inspiration to him. He is inspired by life, music, everything that smells and breathes.
He has been described as a metaphysical painter. But he thinks his way of painting doesn’t have a clear definition. He explains that he was probably given the adjective metaphysician because of his parallelism with the so-called Italian painters. As he explains himself, his paintings require many hours of dedication, as they accumulate up to 400 glazes of transparent colors (for example, only 50 in one hand).
He initially learned to paint on his own, with his first teacher being Honduran-born artist Julio Vizquerro. He later learned from Gregorio Sabillón's evolving technique.
He remembers with emotion his first solo exhibition at the Casal Aliança, which at that time was managed by Carles Maicas. While one of his last exhibitions in our city, under the title "Parvus Viridian", could be seen very recently in the Espai Capgròs on Carrer Sant Benet.
